War Horse tickets
The National Theatre’s internationally-acclaimed smash-hit War Horse returns to London this autumn for a limited season at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, an exciting new venue located just steps away from Wembley Stadium.
Based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness. At its heart are astonishing life-sized horses by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, who bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.
At the outbreak of World War One, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the Cavalry and shipped to France. He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. Albert, who remained on his parents’ Devon farm, cannot forget Joey. Though still not old enough to enlist he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.
Hailed as a ‘landmark theatre event’ (Time), War Horse is an unforgettable theatrical event, not to be missed.
Performances begin 18 October 2019, for 6 weeks only.

Absolutely phenomenal!! Truly beautiful and I have so much respect for the actors who made this story come to life. The mechanical horses really brought this show to another level. So much praise for this cast and directing team. Xxx
An amazing show!! My mum & I loved it. So moving and brilliantly done.
We had the most brilliant time there. War Horse was incredible and very well acted. You could imagine everything they went through, it all looked so real. The seats we had were fabulous, right at the front in the middle. So wanting to go again. Will keep an eye out for when it comes back. Theatre was great
This is my 4th time seeing War Horse and I'll continue to see it every time it tours. I'm pretty much crying by the very first scene, and oh when the adult Joey is finally revealed I'm a mess! I love the singing, the lighting is so simple yet so effective, the battle scenes are stunning. The puppeteers are so talented and must have studied horse behaviour inside out. So much better than the movie, so highly recommended!
Love it!!!!
Amazing!
This was an amazing theatrical performance. A Must See! The talent of the puppeteers makes the animals seem life like and everyone felt immersed and moved with the relationship between horse and young owner! Highly Recommended! Well worth the money!! Must See. A******** Performance!!!!
An absolute must on my list of theatre productions to watch. It's an emotional rollercoaster. My two teenage children and I were captivated by the story from beginning to end, one of them being completely endeared by the goose! The mechanical workings and realistic sounds engage you to the point of realism. A wonderful production, congratulations to everyone involved.
Absolutely brilliant show. My granddaughter and I absolutely loved this. Seats were excellent and the cast were brilliant. I’ll certainly book other shows at this venue.
Stunning. I cried over a puppet because it was so unbelievably moving.
I found it fun to watch and I found out what happened in world war 1 . I never knew it was that bad... Shailen (8 years old)
The horses were amazing. Their movement was so realistic. The production overall was very good. The only downside was that sound when the actors were speaking was not so clear. This maybe because I was sitting high up near the back. I would recommend that everyone should see this play for the amazing technical skill in the performance of the horses
Excellent
absolutely brilliant... both teared up and laughed at points. puppetry was phenomenal and I only wish I’d seen it sooner. One thing I did find is that with the size of the room I struggle to hear the actors at some points during conversation with mics.
Incredible experience, a work of art! Unforgettable and beautiful show.
Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful production leaving me in tears
I have wanted to see this production for a number of years and it was fantastic. The horses were unbelievable and so life like. The cast was great. The music uplifting. The whole production amazing. New theatre was lovely. Seats comfy. Good priced drinks.
An incredible adaption. Every element of this performance is superb! Fantastic use of lighting and music to evoke a sense of tension.
It was an amazing show you forget they are puppets you are so drawn into the story. Just brilliant
Absolutely brilliant!! You actually believe the horses are real! Would go again tomorrow!!
Everything I expected it to be , Absolutely fantastic, emotional, wonderful story with a happy ending, Very exciting, wonderful puppetry, astoundingly great to see , Amazing the fitted so much on to such a small stage , would definitely see it again , took my mother, who totally enjoyed it also , was lovely to see so many young people in the audience,
What a fantastic performance by all those involved. We sometimes forgot we weren’t watching real horses. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Excellent adaptation with a few significant changes from the film
Brilliant production and the service at the theatre was great Massive thanks to everyone
Very evocative and moving show, the horse operators are amazing, getting the movements so good you forget it is a wooden horse being operated by 3 people!
Fantastic show
The whole production was superb. Glad I had the opportunity to enjoy a magical performance. Thank you
Everything about the production was brilliant. The actors, the puppets(so lifelike) the story. So good to see it from the horses perspective. Would thoroughly recommend. Thank you.
Totally captured from the start, from the haunting singer playing accordion to the well mastered puppetry of the horses! Emotional in every sense til the very end! Actually couldn’t believe that I cried when the ‘frame’ of the horse came onto the stage at the end for a bow!!! Just brilliant, I truly loved it!
This was my second visit to Warhorse, my first visit was several years ago. This time it was at the Troubadour in Wembley. Brilliant show!
I have never seen before anything better than War Horse Play - shockingly good !
Better than ecpected, venue good,
Performance is excellent . First time at Venue . Viewing was good - no obstructive Columns . Should have more exit doors .
Took my 12 and 14 year olds to see this show. It is a much loved storey by us all. The production didn't disappoint. . we enjoyed the production.
Well I heard this was excellent and it’s did not disappoint, also was a bit pessimistic about the venue as it’s seems newer than the older style theatres but it was exceptional. Stop reading reviews and just book it 👌🏻
This is just the most beautiful and engaging theatre experience. I took my eleven year old daughter and we absolutely loved every second. The puppets become real horses, the way they move and stamp and snort. Worth every penny.
The performance was absolutely amazing. The creation of the show was phenomenal! Everything was perfect. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent production So lovely to see the Theatre packed with all age groups. Sound quality was a little low, I was in row G but perhaps those behind benefitted from speakers
Show was brilliant, but fire exits at venue worrying.
An amazing production with powerful sound and light effects. Skill of the people working the horses was incredible... you forget the horses are not actually real. Great cast, beautiful singing. Overall a memorable, emotional rollercoaster of a show. My daughter was in tears at the end. Loved it and congratulations to the company 👏👏👏
Saw this in Southampton a few years ago but we were amazed by this production from the National- a huge talented cast delivered a robust but meaningful story so appropriate for this time of year. My only gripe was overpriced merchandise with a paperback copy of the novel price marked £7.99, gleefully explained as ‘we’re charging £15 for that’ and they were - legal I think not.
A fantastic evening you forget your watching puppets
We loved our evening at War Horse and the puppeteers were truly wonderful. The story is so moving and beautifully told although difficult to watch at times. It is even more of a tear jerker when experienced so close to Armistice Day. Everyone should see this play!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance, we were amazed how many school children attended the matinee and were totally enthralled too. I've read the book seen the film but this was the 'icing onn the cake', very special.
Read the book, seen the film but the theatre is a fantastic portrayal of characters and events. Amazing artwork and large scale models that drew your mind into believing in their movements and emotions. I'd seen a TV programme showing how they made the horses move, but that only skimmed the surface compared with the depth of the theatre show. Amazingly actors screenery and many touching moments. Be aware of loud noises and bright lights. We are so glad we went to see it live. Some surprise comedy by the goose.
An amazing and moving performance, highly recommend.
Amazing
Amazing, absolutely loved watching it
"OMG!!!!!!!" You must go & see before it's to late. Outstanding show,,, outstanding performance,,,,, outstanding cast. Loved it from the first moment to the very end.
The play was too long in my opinion. I fell asleep during the second half.
